Take Action: Stand With America’s National Monuments!

National monuments belong to all of us. That’s why local residents and Americans across the nation—sportsmen, business leaders, Native Americans, veterans, conservationists, recreation enthusiasts, members of the faith community—agree that they should be preserved for future generations. But President Donald Trump has taken action to reduce the size of the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments in southern Utah, a step that would eliminate protections for spectacular public lands that are beneficial to our economy and celebrate our nation’s heritage.

Tell President Trump that you oppose reducing the Utah monuments!

Sixteen presidents—both Democrats and Republicans—have proclaimed national monuments to safeguard some of America’s most iconic landscapes, oceans, and historical sites. Grand Staircase-Escalante was designated in 1996 to preserve important scientific, historic, and cultural resources. Since then, more than two dozen new dinosaur species have been among the many scientific discoveries on lands within the monument. Grand Staircase-Escalante’s exceptional scenery and outstanding opportunities for outdoor recreation have drawn visitors from around the world, providing an economic boost to nearby rural communities.

Bears Ears National Monument was designated in 2016 to safeguard more than 100,000 cultural sites, scientific wonders, a wide range of biodiversity, and world-class outdoor recreational opportunities. Five tribes came together to develop a proposal to protect the Bears Ears cultural landscape. The result was the first national monument to truly elevate the Native American voice by including provisions for collaborative management by tribes and the federal government.

Protected public lands are integral to preserving America’s national heritage. Please express your disappointment to President Trump and urge him to take no further actions that would damage our cherished national monuments.
