You spoke, and Congress listened. Thanks in part to your repeated urgings and messages, lawmakers rejected deep cuts proposed for the fiscal year 2018 budget and sustained federal funding for critical activities to combat the growing threat of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
Some federal agencies even received additional support above last year’s levels. For example, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority each received millions of dollars in new funding for critical public health initiatives such as finding new ways to treat and prevent resistant infections.
It’s essential that we remain vigilant in the ongoing fight against superbugs, and you’ll be hearing from us again soon as the budget cycle for next year ramps up. But for now, let’s thank Congress for taking action to fund the battle against this urgent threat.
Please email your representatives in Congress today to thank them for protecting Americans from drug-resistant superbugs.
