Take action: Tweet to urge your members of Congress to defend our national monuments!
Sixteen presidents—eight Republicans and eight Democrats—have used an important law called the Antiquities Act to safeguard public lands, oceans, and historic sites as national monuments in order to share America’s story with future generations. But today, several bills are before Congress that would make it almost impossible for a president to protect other deserving public lands and oceans using the Antiquities Act, in addition to legislation that would weaken existing national monument protections.
Tweet now to defend our national monuments, public lands, and oceans!
In December, President Donald Trump issued proclamations to significantly diminish Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments in Utah, and Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke has recommended reducing protections for other national monuments across the country, including Cascade-Siskiyou on the Oregon-California border and Gold Butte in Nevada.
Twitter is a powerful platform to highlight the nationwide support for defending our national monuments from legislative and administrative threats. Please ask your members of Congress to take a stand for these cherished public landscapes and seascapes, and the bedrock conservation law that made their protection possible.
